After a one-year demonstration phase in Rudersdal Municipality, during which more than 40,000 trips were made using shared bikes and cars, the information signs will now be removed, while the shared mobility services will remain available to citizens.

The signs are being taken down because the EU-funded bike- and car-sharing project was originally launched as a temporary trial and officially ended in July 2025. As a result, the associated information and promotional signage must be removed.

However, the Climate and Environment Committee has decided to continue both carsharing and bikesharing, ensuring that in the future citizens will still be able to borrow or rent a shared bike or car via websites and apps.

200 bikes and 60 cars

This shows that bike sharing and car sharing are gaining popularity. According to Rudersdal Municipality, more than 200 shared bikes and 60 shared cars are available in Holte, Birkerød, Trørød, Nærum, Vedbæk, Gl. Holte, and at DTU Science Park in Hørsholm.

The Capital Region is supporting the initiative and has confirmed that the scheme can continue in 2025.

It has had a big impact on cyclists

However, from July 2025, the directional and information signs at the major stations will no longer be in place. Instead, users will continue to have access to digital maps and route planners, allowing them to locate available bikes and cars in advance.

The number of trips has nearly doubled, and it will be interesting to see whether this growth continues without physical signage and solely through digital platforms.

Top 5 popular locations

Since the trial began in the summer of 2024, several additional bike hubs have been established, particularly in the Birkerød area.

As expected, the major S-train stations in Birkerød and Holte are among the most frequently used hubs for bike sharing.

HUBs:

  • Holte Station
  • Birkerød Station
  • Øverødvej 91, bus stop
  • Trørød Torv
  • Langhaven/Gingshøvej, bus stop

For car sharing, DTU Science Park and Birkerød city center are among the most popular destinations.
