In a spirit of strong collaboration, the GEMINI Project General Assembly took place on 9–10 June in the beautiful city of Helsinki, hosted by Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.
All project partners had the opportunity to review and celebrate the achievements accomplished throughout the project, reflecting on the valuable relationships and partnerships built along the way. The meeting also provided an important opportunity to assess the status of the remaining deliverables and ensure readiness for the final review.
The opening session, delivered by Dr. Miimu Airaksinen-Wikberg, Vice President at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, presented the project’s overall progress: 16 deliverables submitted on time, 8 New Mobility Services designed, operational activities in both Lead and Twin Mobility Living Labs, and the launch of key assets such as the CARUSO Fleetboard, VIF prototypes, the GEMINI Data Space, and the GEMINI Academy.
The General Assembly highlighted GEMINI’s transition from planning to operational demonstration across all work packages:
WP4 focused on digital and data-driven tools, including AAOS applications for fleet management, the GEMINI Fleetboard and AI-enabled Fleet Assistant, and the Data Space / BI Platform, which supports analytics, demand forecasting, dataset discovery, and rebalancing.
WP5 translated project lessons into policy tools and recommendations, including the Urban CarShare Compass and guidance on governance, regulation, funding, data, and shared mobility integration.
WP6 reported progress on communication, business models, exploitation, the Academy, and the final event in Turin, while WP7 covered coordination, ethics, risk management, data management, reporting, and the roadmap to project completion.
Evelyn De Wachter, together with Dirk Engels, presented the WP5 Policy Package session, specifically Task 5.1, “Policy recommendations for accelerated deployment of the GEMINI services.”
This contribution focused on policy recommendations to accelerate the adoption of GEMINI and New Mobility Services, based on desk research, interviews, and workshops. The recommendations addressed three decision-making levels: local, national, and European.
The key message can be summarised as follows: shared mobility should not be treated as a temporary experiment, but as a stable part of the mobility system, supported by long-term political commitment, fair rules, and strong governance capacity.
The Living Labs presented concrete implementation results. Porto tested event mobility solutions around Estádio do Dragão; Amsterdam advanced the Mobility as a Commons cooperative car-sharing model; Copenhagen developed peri-urban mobility hubs; Munich focused on event traffic management at Allianz Arena; Turin launched the SmartMove MaaS app; Paris-Saclay worked on car-sharing standards; Ljubljana piloted corporate e-bike mobility; and Helsinki tested the integration of public transport with demand-responsive transport and taxi services.
Another noteworth moment featured Pablo Decelis from Cenex NL who shocased the amazing 3D Mobility World, the interactive version of the GEMINI New Mobility Services Handbook, developed under WP5.
Instead of a static PDF, it presents the handbook through a 3D city environment, where users click on hotspots to access policy recommendations, data, and technology insights on new mobility services.
The platform is currently in beta, hosted on Netlify and GitHub, with plans to migrate it to the Cenex website.
It also includes a RAG-based chatbot, which works as a smart search layer by retrieving relevant handbook content, rather than acting as a general AI assistant.
Here the GEMINI Mobility Living Labs are used as entry points: each hotspot links to a living lab, grounding the handbook in real-world pilots while still presenting the broader policy content of the project.
The project’s final results will be showcased during the GEMINI Final Event, which will be held in Turin, one of the project’s pilot cities, on October 14
