GEMINI project partner Kathryn Bulanowski (EPF) contributed to the E-Scooter and Bike-Share Urban Usage Focus Group, a European initiative within the framework of the Smart Cities Marketplace that examined the rapid growth of shared micromobility.

๐Ÿ›ด E-scooters have increasingly shaped urban transport, with adoption rates surpassing ๐Ÿšฒ bike-sharing and around 20 million users across Europe. While they have often been associated with more sustainable mobility patterns, their overall impact has remained under discussion, particularly in relation to walking and cycling. At the same time, cities have been testing different regulatory approaches.

The focus group aimed to better understand e-scooter usage and governance across Europe. Its work focused on four key areas:

  • identifying user needs,
  • analysing usage patterns,
  • gathering stakeholder perspectives,
  • comparing regulations and best practices.

The initiative resulted in a comprehensive report and a public webinar to share findings with the wider mobility community.

Through its involvement, the GEMINI project reinforced its commitment to supporting evidence-based solutions for the future of urban mobility in Europe.
