On 14 October 2026, the GEMINI project brought together partners, cities, mobility operators, policymakers, researchers and mobility experts in Turin, Italy, for its Final Event. Hosted at the Città Metropolitana di Torino, the event marked an important milestone in the project’s journey, offering an opportunity to reflect on its achievements, share lessons learned and explore how GEMINI’s results can continue to support more sustainable, inclusive and accessible mobility across Europe.
After years of collaboration, experimentation and knowledge exchange, the event celebrated the work carried out across GEMINI’s eight Mobility Living Labs (MLLs), while placing particular emphasis on the practical application and replication of the project’s solutions.
From innovative pilots to real-world mobility solutions
The morning opened with welcome speeches from Elli Papaioannou, GEMINI Project Officer at the European Commission, and Oliver Lah, Project Coordinator, who reflected on the project’s journey and its contribution to advancing sustainable mobility in Europe.
A high-level panel on greening European mobility brought together perspectives from mobility policy, the market and citizens, exploring the opportunities and challenges involved in moving innovative mobility services beyond pilot projects and towards wider implementation.
One of the central moments of the event was the presentation of the experiences and results from GEMINI’s eight Mobility Living Labs.
The first session featured Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Paris-Saclay and Ljubljana, focusing on shared mobility communities, mobility hubs and improved access to public transport. The second session brought together Turin, Munich, Porto and Helsinki, highlighting Mobility as a Service (MaaS), event-related mobility, flexible transport services and multimodal connections.
Together, these presentations illustrated the diversity of mobility challenges addressed by GEMINI and demonstrated how innovative solutions can be adapted to different urban and peri-urban contexts.
Sharing knowledge and supporting replication
Beyond the individual pilots, the Final Event highlighted one of GEMINI’s most important ambitions: ensuring that the knowledge generated throughout the project can benefit other cities and mobility stakeholders.
During the networking break, the GEMINI Marketplace offered participants an opportunity to explore project results, communication materials, tools and resources, and exchange experiences directly with consortium partners.
The afternoon discussions then turned to policy recommendations, exploitation opportunities and replication pathways.
The GEMINI Policy Package presented practical recommendations addressing governance, regulation, data and technology, together with guidance for implementing shared mobility services. The GEMINI Academy showcased how the knowledge gathered through the Living Labs can be transformed into accessible learning resources, helping other cities understand what worked, identify implementation challenges and adapt solutions to their own needs.
A recurring message emerged from these discussions: successful mobility innovation requires more than technology. Long-term impact depends on effective governance, cooperation between stakeholders, user engagement and the ability to respond to local conditions.
Discovering the Turin Mobility Living Lab: A visit to 5T
The Final Event concluded with a site visit to the offices of 5T, one of the key partners involved in implementing the Turin Mobility Living Lab.
During the visit, participants attended a dedicated presentation of the activities carried out in Turin within the GEMINI project, gaining further insight into the local approach to integrated and sustainable mobility.
The session provided an opportunity to explore the Turin Living Lab’s experience with SmartMove by GEMINI, including the integration of different transport services and the role of digital tools in facilitating multimodal travel.
The visit offered a valuable connection between the results presented during the conference and their practical implementation in a real urban mobility environment.
The GEMINI journey continues through its results
The Final Event was not only an occasion to celebrate the project’s achievements, but also a moment to look ahead.
Through its eight Mobility Living Labs, GEMINI has generated practical experiences, knowledge and recommendations that can help cities, mobility operators and policymakers make informed decisions about the future of shared and sustainable mobility.
The project’s legacy lies in the solutions tested, the partnerships established and the resources developed to support their wider adoption.
A sincere thank you to all the speakers, partners, participants and local hosts who contributed to making the GEMINI Final Event a successful occasion for learning, collaboration and exchange.
Although the project is approaching its conclusion, its results and lessons learned will continue to offer valuable guidance for cities working towards a more connected, inclusive and sustainable mobility future.
Stay tuned! Presentations from the event and interviews with speakers and project partners will soon be available on the GEMINI website, offering further insights into the project’s achievements, lessons learned and future opportunities.
